The Modern Mystery School is part of a living spiritual lineage that has been passed down from teacher to student for more than 3,000 years, tracing back to the time of King Solomon. It carries forward timeless wisdom and practical tools to help you awaken to who you truly are and to live your life with clarity, purpose, and joy.
These teachings are universal — they honor all traditions while standing outside any one religion. They are rooted in the understanding that we are each divine beings, here to express the unique light that lives within us.

A Living Lineage
The Modern Mystery School is one of only seven ancient mystery schools still in existence today — and the only one open to the public. Its integrity is safeguarded by the Third Order — three lineage holders who carry the responsibility of maintaining the purity of the teachings — and by the Council of 12, a group of high initiates who embody and guide the expression of the Divine Feminine in the lineage.
From its headquarters in Canada, the school has expanded to include centers and practitioners around the world — in the U.S., U.K., Ireland, Japan, Brazil, South Africa, the Caribbean, and beyond.

Third Order
Throughout history, authentic Mystery School lineages have been entrusted to dedicated custodians who preserve the integrity of the teachings and ensure the the path remains available for sincere seekers. Within the Modern Mystery School, these stewards are known as the Third Order.
The Third Order consists of three extraordinary leaders, each offering unique wisdom, gifts, and stewardship in service to the lineage:
- Founder and Sovereign Ipsissimus Gudni Gudnason – is the founder of the Modern Mystery School, whose vision and lifelong dedication established the lineage’s modern expression and whose profound teaching through allegory, metaphor, and direct experience has shaped the spiritual development of students around the world.
- Sovereign Ipsissimus Dave Lanyon – has played a pivotal role in the worldwide growth of the Modern Mystery School, using his visionary leadership and ability to make Hermetic teachings practical and accessible to expand the lineage across more than 55 countries.
- Sovereign Ipsissimus Hideto Nakagome – has been instrumental in the growth of the Modern Mystery School since 2000, bringing the strength of his Samurai heritage, unwavering dedication to the mission of World Peace, and a joyful, engaging approach to teaching.

Governing Ipsissima and Ipsissimus
Those who have attained the highest initiation of Ipsissimus have demonstrated exceptional dedication, service, and spiritual mastery within the lineage. Appointed by the Third Order, they serve as master teachers, lineage leaders, and custodians of specialized areas of knowledge, helping to preserve, strengthen, and advance the work of the Modern Mystery School around the world.

Council of Twelve
Established in 2017 alongside the Third Order, the Council of Twelve is a leadership body of twelve senior women initiates from around the world who serve the Modern Mystery School.
Working closely with the Third Order, the Council provides wisdom, guidance, and leadership in support of the lineage’s mission and the service of humanity. Council membership evolves over time, with members rotating as needed to best serve the work of the lineage.
